The Cottages of Old Monrovia community is expanding.
The city of Huntsville issued 32 permits for the second phase of the development in the last two weeks totaling $5.4 million. Thirty permits were issued last week.
Three other projects issued permits last week in the Huntsville area, two commercial and one residential, also exceeded $1 million, according to Southern Exposure Information.
Capstone Communities of Birmingham is the parent company of the Old Monrovia development. The permits were issued to assistant construction manager Patrick Vawter. Cottages Builders Inc., the construction division of Capstone Communities, is listed as the contractor.
CBI senior project manager William Noel said the second phase of the Old Monrovia development is being called the Villas at Old Monrovia. The buildings issued permits are on Cernan and Aldrin Drive. A permit for a $1.1 million clubhouse on Cernan Drive was issued two weeks ago.
Noel said the second phase will have 276 units, with more than 160 buildings.
“Some are duplexes,” he said. “Some are single family homes.”
The value of the buildings ranged from more than $87,000 to more than $150,000. Noel said the final building in the phase is expected to be completed in March 2024.
The first phase – Cottages at Old Monrovia – was completed in 2021, Noel said.
According to the Cottages at Old Monrovia website, one-, two- and three-bedroom cottages, townhomes and duplexes are offered.
Rent in one of the one-bedroom units was listed at $1,346-$1,517. Rent in a two-bedroom unit was listed at $1,597-$1,802 and a three-bedroom cottage rented at $2,230=$2,475.
The company specializes in multifamily units and lists projects in Birmingham and Auburn.
